Yet another brainless display by Southgate…

Such limited football MANAGEMENT capability…

Talks big…fails at final delivery on the pitch…Talks glibly afterwards…

Mediocre defender…Mediocre Manager…

Yup. Four goals in the knockout stages of the Euros.
Denmark technically not a penalty as he scored from the rebound.

Re: England v Hungary
PS. I totally agree Antonio AND Lingard should have been in his Euros squad.......basically the only option he (Southparkgate) left us in the knockout stages was a penalty shootout if plan A wasn't working

Re: England v Hungary
Hopefully Southgate will now realise that Kane is a " flat track bully" at international level ( has he ever scored in a game that matters in a tournament other than a pen?) and use him more as an impact sub? So we need a new leading striker at this level or will do very soon IMHO. The lad Toney at Brentford? English?

Harold Kane looking to do a Michael Owen and be finished in the next year or so hopefully so Levy gets nowt for him.

Re: England v Hungary
I too would of taken Antonio as a sub, i think he is one of the best options off the bench to either protect a lead by being a outlet up front and running the channels putting defenders under pressure or to try and nick a goal with his pace and power. Certainly a much better option than Calvert Lewin.

Southgate fucked the squad by only choosing Mount as a CAM.....who had a shocking tournament. We certainly didnt need 6 full backs and the inclusion of Saka.

As i said after the Scotland game the England job should be a piece of piss at the moment.......greatest talent pool to pick from certainly in my life time........prem is by far highest standard in Europe.........yet Southgate seems to make it look tough way too often

I had a row with a Chelsea fan on Saturday about Mason Mount, I said that I don't see what all the fuss is about but he is adamant that he is a world class player.

I have yet to see him do anything world class.

Re: England v Hungary
Southgate talks about the future a lot but mostly you are in the present. You need to win today which when the chips are down he’s failed on. I just think we need a coach to win the big games and Southgate can do all the donkey work.

He would have the bonus of a BLM positive story too. # winning

Re: England v Hungary
Southgate went for 4 right backs and as many centre halves while in a 26 man squad for the Euros he had plenty of room to pick Antonio and Lingard to win close games.
Like many below I believe if Antonio had replaced the Spurs carthorse after an hour of the final , Rice had stayed on and Lingard replaced Mount England would have won ... maybe 3-1.

3 West Ham on the pitch .... cue a new statue
And a new public holiday .... THANK YOU WEST HAM DAY*

I would have used Antonio as an impact sub.

Of course we’ll never know.

Re: England v Hungary
I dunno on that Branded, he seems to work best when we are on the break and often disappears or snatches at chances like the best of them when it's a breakdown of the opposition scenario.
Did Italy handle Lukaku well the other night or didn't he play as he's as close you'll get to what Antonio can be?.......

Re: England v Hungary
The only real question is how do you score goals when the opposition is great at defending?

Not with ineffective strikers.

Antonio would have won us the Euro final and last night.

Re: England v Hungary
OGS, it seems southgate learnt very little from those early games at the euros when he used declan in a similar role to last night. I used read loads of comments on various videos on YT slating the player and not the manager, who'd clearly instructed him to sit in front of the back four. even ward prowse next to honour have been an improvement last night

Side of Ham 1:10 Wed Oct 13
Re: England v Hungary
OGS imo we always struggle with the break down of teams set up well no matter how we set up.......we then only show up for the first half hour.....if you have the brains or guile no system will stop you using that for the full 90mins......see Gazza or indeed Sir Trev as examples.....Southgate just wouldn't be able to suppress that.......

OccupyGreenStreet 1:04 Wed Oct 13
Re: England v Hungary
SoH - think the squad is very talented and has masses of football brain and guile - it’s more the manager isn’t quite sharp enough to adapt quickly when the opposition set him challenges. It was worth trying the new system with the extra AM but it clearly wasn’t working well and Southgate should have got another midfielder nearer Dec much earlier.

Rossal 1:04 Wed Oct 13
Re: England v Hungary
Kane Sterling Henderson Mount all favourites of Southgate.......the amount of games where he brings Henderson on for no apparent reason........including the euro final

Its baffling

Side of Ham 12:56 Wed Oct 13
Re: England v Hungary
Southgate is now finding that getting to a final gets you extra special homework done by the opposition......Italy will work around the extra drive shown by the opposition whilst England will look like the headless chicken conveyor belt they are......there is just no guile or enough football brains in our team or indeed our production line of young players......and they are still over hyped because of the Premier League......funny thing is Italy performances are as close to a PL performance as you will get at international level in closing down and pressing.

OccupyGreenStreet 12:55 Wed Oct 13
Re: England v Hungary
TM - spot on. Think Bellingham was rested for these two matches but we needed someone like him or even Kalvin Phillips so that there was movement box-to-box. The attacking midfield line was too rigid and far from Declan and the CBs to link up properly. Grealish was good at breaking through the lines, and Foden and Sterling only in parches. Not a good game for MM or for Southgate.

Or for Plod!

Re: England v Hungary
last night showed the value of someone like phillips (where was bellingham?), someone prepared to track back as well as help attacks. the more I see of mount, the more he looks like a luxury player. clearly southgate is obsessed with him, and his inclusion will continue whether he plays well or not. mong again looked ordinary

Re: England v Hungary
As I said last night. Mount doesn't deserve his automatic selection. Taking Grealish off for Henderson when you need a goal???
Who the fuck would put Saka on instead of Lingard, fucking ridiculous decision! Saka is too raw and reminds me of Sterling when he was a young headless chicken.

Southgate was exposed last night with some baffling subs.
He tried a different system then panicked when it didn't work and put Henderson on thinking reverting to two DM again would result in a goal.
